We are looking to add a hands-on leader for Applications and Systems Automation to our dynamic, growing, and passionate IT and Enterprise Systems team. The resource is on-site IT Applications and Systems Automation subject matter expert and professional based in the College Station, TX. The role of Applications and Systems Automation leader is to implement and manage software that streamline data collections, automates manual workflows, and sets up measurement tools that generate actionable insight. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience working with on-premises and cloud system deployments (SaaS), On-Prem, Hybrid and should be knowledgeable in a wide array of technical and operational topics including system administration, operating systems, infrastructure and application security, virtualization technologies and networking (TCP/IP, DNS, Active Directory Services included). You will also enhance and improve existing and create new enterprise-grade IT solutions. You ensure that all IT services are maintained to a high standard and provide day to day support as required. You ensure that all incidents are properly addressed and make recommendations for improving the company’s IT systems. You configure a resilient and secure IT architecture compliant to regulations and company policies, to ensure the success of the business. This is a full-time role that reports directly to the Enterprise IT and Systems department leader.


  • Install and upgrade computer components and manage on-prem, hybrid, cloud software, and integration of various software packages to automate data collections

  • Applications and Systems Automation Administration and support, including security patching, new system deployment, and account administration

  • Lead, implement and automate support systems to monitor, gather real time data locally or remotely.

  • Designing, deploying, and maintaining Matica’s core Shop Floor, lab Applications and Systems

  • Implement and own governance framework for Application and Systems Automation

  • Lead the IT team towards Digital Transformation, specifically to streamline operational and business processes

  • Provide guidance to internal operations team and execute solutions design, development, delivery, and maintenance, that enable data-driven decision making.

  • Support and drive data standards and quality

  • Connect IoT objects able to collect and exchange data using embedded sensors.

  • Support and implement strategic initiatives, develops programs, and participate in sustaining and growing internal business department partnerships with internal customers for the business group

  • Be a BRM (Business Relationship Manager)/focal point to operations team to meet, manage and provide support to all Applications and Systems Automation needs.

  • Drive operational excellence through benchmarking and continuous improvement programs aligned to the overall business objectives using Business Process Excellence (BPE) methodology

  • Provide documentation and technical specifications to business and IT/IS staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT/IS infrastructure

  • Perform and verify regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures.

  • Advise and consult with internal customers on risk assessment, threat modeling and fixing vulnerabilities

  • Implement and effectively develop IT/IS operations and Systems Automation best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols.

  • Plans, organizes, determines, trains, and monitors employees’ capabilities and improvement areas

  • Supervise and manage direct reports to accomplish 98% of SLA on assigned tickets attention and resolution time.

  • Responsible for asset tracking and maintaining an up-to-date inventory of IT equipment.

  • Assist supervisor with assessing and maintaining local operating costs, productivity levels, infrastructure lifecycle management, application repository management, and other metrics by analyzing and monitoring system performance and overall IT/IS infrastructure performance indicators

  • Responsible for data integrity through common Cybersecurity practices, such as proper Identity and Access Management, ensuring Advanced Threat Protection is on all client/server devices and are up to date, vulnerability patching occurs per policy, focused user training, and continuously seeking improvement to current solutions and services


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Administration/Automation, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience required

  • 7+ years of increasingly advanced systems automation environment.

  • Minimum 4+ years related experience in leading a team.

  • Prior experience with SaaS, IaaS, on-prem applications. SCADA data collections system experience is a plus.

  • 3+ years’ experience identifying, implementing, and documenting automation and orchestration standards, procedures, and policies using various tools/programming language.

  • Background in building consolidated data view and able to provide quantitative decision-making ability to key business users and help drive business metrics, automate operational tasks, thereby driving process excellence and adoption of different tools and resource

  • Advanced knowledge in using MS Office and Office 365 Applications

  • Prior cloud infrastructure technology experience is a plus

  • Demonstrated technical leadership and ability to drive projects and ensure closure within stipulated timelines

  • Database Administration is a plus (Microsoft SQL and Oracle)

  • Good understanding ITIL practices & other standard IT practices/procedures, particularly as they relate to the cloud.

  • Certification in any relevant technologies is a plus.

  • Willingness to solve complicated problems and see projects through to completion.

  • Analytical skills to study problems and records and identify solutions.

  • Team-oriented attitude to help other colleagues and departments with technical problem resolution.

  • Strong interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Ability to manage time and effectively prioritize numerous projects at one time
