Matica Biotechnology is a contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) engaged in the development and manufacture of viral vectors for our clients. We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to lead the company’s financial operations and to safeguard the assets of the company – ensuring that company management have a clear understanding of operating performance and risks in achieving financial targets. The position is expected to set up processes/procedures and provide key support across all financial operations including: budgeting and forecasting processes, financial performance and reporting, controls and compliance, procurement, tax strategy, accounting, and fundraising. This position will work cross-functionally with leaders, including in operations, supply function and business development, and reports to the CEO, or designee. This position will also work very closely with counterparts within the network companies, who may be located internationally.


Strategic financial/corporate roles and responsibilities (50%)

1. Actively contribute to the development and execution of the company’s strategic and business plans

  • Work with senior management to establish pricing policies, and strategic modeling and analytics for company’s development and manufacturing services.

  • Support the business and management with accurate cost accounting and department profit & loss statements.

  • Present the company’s financial outlook to the CEO and the Board on a regular basis.

2. Financing

  • Working with the senior management team, contribute to the financing/fundraising events and other investor relation activities

3. Procedures and policies

  • Working with the senior management team, establish processes for financial planning, budgeting and forecasting.

  • Set up procedures for accounting.



Accounting/operational roles and responsibilities (20%)

1. Supervise all accounting operations and full cycle transactional responsibilities including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Procurement

  • Cash Management

  • Accounts Receivables / Customer Maintenance

  • Prepaids

  • Fixed Assets

  • Capital Leasing

  • Accounts Payable / Vendor Maintenance

  • Purchasing and Requisitioning

  • Intercompany transactions

  • General Ledger / Chart of Accounts / Journal Entries

  • Invoicing/Billing

  • Revenue recognition in conformity with ASC 606

  • Expenses

2. Work closely with other functions to support their tasks, for example:

  • with Supply Chain Management team to ensure invoices are paid on time and there are no delays in material supply, and to support procurement and purchasing.

  • with Commercial/Sales team in generating proposals and simulating internal cost


Financial reporting and audit support (20%)

  • Ensure timely closure of financial reporting for each period (monthly, quarterly, end of year), including the preparation or review of all supporting documentation, schedules, reconciliations, and other requirements.

  • Responsible for internal and external audit activities and for ensuring compliance with all applicable SEC, GAAP and FASB regulations.

  • Coordinates the timely filing of the Company tax returns prepared by outside tax advisors and ensures proper maintenance of accounting records and documentation in compliance with statutory requirements and Company policies.


Other duties (10%)

  • Perform other duties as assigned and/or required, including corporate-level operational tasks


  • BS degree in Finance or related discipline required. CPA degree strongly preferred. MBA degree a plus.

  • 5+ years’ experience in a Financial leadership role, preferably in the biotechnology or life sciences industry.  Experience in a services company preferred.  Experience implementing an ERP system a plus.

  • All relevant Licenses and Certifications will be requested.

  • Ability to support planning and budgeting process.  Working knowledge of US financial laws regulations and guidelines required.  Knowledge of international financial guidelines such as IFRS a plus.

  • Computer software skills, organization, record keeping and planning skills, budget preparation, training skills, time management, facilitation skills.

  • Demonstrated leader in the field with sustained performance and accomplishments.
